The genre was commercially successful during the mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s, with the "Big Four" of thrash metal – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax – being joined by Exodus, Overkill and Testament.
I was never much of a Slayer or Megadeath fanboy. They were alright, but I preferred Testament and Exodus. So here is MY big 4.
I will primarily focus on my favorite album from each group. Maybe a few extras from outside that album.
Testament - Practice What You Preach
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Anthrax - State of Euphoria
Exodus - Fabulous Disaster
Songs with Murder/Death/Kill and derivatives in the title.
I have about 3 hours of music lined up. All with Mother, Mom, Mama, Mommy, etc in the titles.
Don't even think this is going to be a tribute to mothers..... it isn't.
We went back to the suggestion spreadsheet, this week we’re going with Top 5 songs with Never in the title.
Thank you very much Sunita (@hearcomesthesun) for the suggestion.
Since it is 05/05 I am going to do 5 songs from 5 groups. For most of them, we will be diving into a single album.
Roxy Blue - Memphis, TN
Dangerous Toys - Austin, TX
Kik Tracee - Los Angeles, CA
Childs Play - Baltimore, MD
Bang Tango - Los Angeles, CA
This will be more like the normal flow of the show. Not just an entire show centered around a single band. I don't plan on going deep into the history of each band. Just mainly stories of where I was in my life when I discovered them.
Songs with the word the word NOTHING in the title....
New format for the show.
It hit me during the 4/21 show that the word GROUP is in the title. So, moving forward, we will now pick a different group (or 2..or maybe 4) and spotlight their music.
I will, as always, be taking calls and doing WTFIYP-Style tech support for any VRN Curator that may need some assistance.
For the first episode in this new format, I will dedicate the entire time to one of the groups I am most associated with : POISON!
